Aggregates have a decisive influence on the parameters of the obtained concrete mix. They provide an appropriate level of strength and safety of use for road surfaces. They also play an extremely important role in soil reinforcement. Aggregates for these and many other applications are produced by Żwirownia Nowa Biała, owned by MKM Kruszywa Sp. z o.o. in Nowy Targ. Żwirownia Nowa Biała, located in Nowa Biała (Nowy Targ commune), extracts and processes aggregates with very high physical and mechanical parameters, resistant to atmospheric factors, ecologically clean. Production is supervised by a team of experts with specialized education with appropriate professional qualifications, supported by many years of experience in rock mining in the production of construction and road aggregates.
The Nowa Biała natural aggregate deposit is a fragment of the alluvial fan of the Białka River.
The deposit is built of quaternary fluvial-glacial formations in the form of coarse granite, sandstone, limestone and dolomite gravels and variegated sands. The overburden covering the deposit is formed by a layer of soil and a thin layer of clay with individual pebbles from 0.15 to 0.4 m thick, on average 0.3 m. Directly under the overburden there is a deposit series containing variegated gravels with an admixture of sands and pebbles. The average sand point is 22.3%, and the dust content is 2.1%. The ordinates of the roof of the deposit are on average 570.7 m above sea level.
The petrographic composition of the sand fraction is dominated by quartz grains (63.8%), with smaller amounts of igneous and sedimentary rock grains (61% granite). The deposit is located at a considerable distance from watercourses. The Dunajec River flows about 1.2 km from its northern border, the Czerwonka stream flows about 1.0 km from the western side, and the Białka stream about 2.0 km beyond the eastern border. Within the documented deposit there is one Quaternary aquifer associated with gravel formations. The water table is free and fluctuates depending on the intensity of atmospheric precipitation.
The deposit is mined in two levels of variable height (depending on the variability of the geological structure) using a longwall or mining system.
Extraction takes place both from the dry level and from underwater. The production capacity of Żwirownia Nowa Biała amounts to over 200 thousand tons/year. The main mineral, which is natural aggregate, is used in its entirety for the production of road and construction aggregates in the processing plant on the mine premises, in accordance with its qualification based on laboratory tests conducted during the documentation of the deposit. These tests confirmed that the extracted aggregate qualifies – in accordance with the standard PN-EN 12620 Aggregates for concrete, PN-EN 13242 Aggregates for unbound and hydraulically bound materials used in buildings and road construction and PN-EN 13043 Aggregates for bituminous mixtures and surface dressings used on roads, airports and other surfaces intended for traffic – for use in road and cubature construction.
The machinery park consists of screens, mobile crushers and a washing plant consisting of a sword washer, a screen and a hydrocyclone. The material obtained from the deposit is initially sieved, and then the material consisting of coarser fractions is directed to crushers, where aggregates for mixtures are created, while the finer material is washed to obtain gravel. The technology used allows for the elimination of weak grain, which results in high parameters of grits with a granite content of 80 or even approx. 90% by weight. During mechanical processing, no waste is generated, because the entire material after processing is separated into individual fractions, to finally constitute a commercial product.
